Dr. Betty F. Nugent Professional Development Training
The past month at Iwacu Academy has been nothing short of remarkable! We are excited to share with our school community the impactful journey our educators have experienced through rigorous professional development facilitated by the distinguished Dr. Betty F. Nugent, a dedicated leader in education with a deep commitment to teaching and learning.
Dr. Nugent illustrated that project-based learning (PBL) is not merely a teaching strategy; it is an engaging, hands-on approach that sparks curiosity, fosters creativity, and equips students with essential career skills.
Numerous studies have shown that PBL can lead to significant improvements in student test scores, attendance, and overall classroom participation. As we begin to adopt these methods throughout Iwacu Academy, we look forward to seeing similar positive results for our students. One of the most groundbreaking elements of Dr. Nugent's training was her innovative method of incorporating coding into all subject areas. Instead of viewing computer programming as a separate discipline, she demonstrated to our teachers how coding can enrich learning in mathematics, science, languages, as well as the arts and physical education.
Central to Dr. Nugent's methodology is her dedication to STEAM education—encompassing Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics. Her training sessions demonstrated that when these fields are taught in a cohesive manner, they play a crucial role in fostering essential 21st Century skills in our students.
We express our heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Betty F. Nugent for imparting her knowledge and enthusiasm to us. Her experience in educational leadership has provided our school with the valuable insights needed during this crucial phase of our growth. The foundations laid during this month of focused training will continue to thrive in our classrooms. Most importantly, our students will be the primary beneficiaries, gaining not only knowledge but also vital skills such as curiosity, collaboration, and creative problem-solving that will benefit them throughout their lives.
