Field trip to Carnegie Mellon University Africa

There is nothing more fulfilling than seeing the spark of inspiration and knowledge in our students' eyes. We had the honor of guiding our bright young learners through what I consider a truly transformative experience—a field trip to Carnegie Mellon University Africa. What started as an educational outing evolved into a day filled with wonder, exploration, and limitless opportunities that I am excited to share with our school community.
Our aim was to introduce our primary school students to advanced technology education in a way that was both age-appropriate and engaging. The outcome surpassed our highest hopes. Upon arriving at the CMU-Africa campus, we felt immense pride as our students, many of whom had never visited a university before, approached this new setting with curiosity and enthusiasm. The staff at CMU-Africa had carefully crafted a program designed for our students' age group, achieving the ideal balance between accessibility and academic challenge that we strive for every day at Iwacu Academy.

Experiential Learning: The Core of Our Educational Philosophy

The block coding session our students participated in perfectly illustrated the learning methodology that underpins our educational philosophy at Iwacu Academy. We have made substantial investments in our modest computer lab, and witnessing our students utilize cutting-edge technology with the support of graduate students reinforced our dedication to enhancing our technological resources.
One of the most impactful moments of our visit was the chance for our students to engage with African role models in the tech industry. Our commitment to nurturing future leaders was evident as I observed our children interact with graduate students from various parts of the continent, who, despite sharing similar backgrounds, were now advancing their education at a prestigious institution.
This field trip showcased the educational philosophy that characterizes Iwacu Academy: merging theoretical concepts with hands-on experience, linking classroom education to real-world innovation, and providing our students with insights into pathways that lead to meaningful futures.
